Police seek suspect over 44,000-euro scam

A 49-year-old woman has been identified as the main suspect behind a scam that saw at least one elderly resident of Katerini, northern Greece, “investing” 44,000 euros in a non-existent money-making scheme.

Police on Friday said they have compiled a file on the suspect, who is being sought, after receiving a complaint from an 85-year-old man who said he received a call from a woman claiming to work for an investment fund.

From October last year and until June, the elderly man told investigators he paid more than 44,000 euros to the woman.
