Mother, 35, charged with murdering baby

The 35-year-old mother of a 5-day-old infant that was found dead in the courtyard below its family’s fifth-floor apartment balcony in Patissia, central Athens, on Wednesday, has been charged with murder but will not be held in custody.

After several hours of testimony in which it allegedly emerged that she dropped the infant from the balcony, the 35-year-old was released on the grounds that she suffers from postpartum depression, according to an examining psychologist.
