Tax crackdown in Piraeus, islands, uncovers dozens of violations
A rash of tax inspections on businesses in Piraeus and on the islands of the Cyclades, the northern and southern Aegean and Crete in the period between July 17 and 26 traced 210 tax violations, officials said on Tuesday.
The tax inspectors carried out a total of 568 checks during the crackdown.
The General Secretariat for Revenues, which is part of the Finance Ministry but which creditors have strived to make more independent, has called for constant checks on businesses over the summer in a bid to curb widespread tax evasion.
