ND MPs call for Varoufakis to face memorandum probe panel
A group of MPs from conservative New Democracy on Tuesday called for former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis to face a parliamentary committee probing Greece's memorandums with creditors and accused him of leading the economy to collapse.
In a letter to the head of the committee, which was set up by SYRIZA when the leftists came to power, the MPs Haralambos Athanasiou, Savvas Anastasiades, Makis Voridis and Christos Staikouras, called for Varoufakis to be summoned immediately for questioning.
The lawmakers said their request stands as it relates to the completion of Greece's second loan program. They also referred to revelations by Varoufakis that he had planned a parallel banking system, noting that the scheme would be precursor to a transition to a new currency.
The legislators conclude that Varoufakis did not take the necessary action to keep the country solvent and that his negotiating tactics led the Greek economy to collapse.
