Two arrested for illegal weapons possession
A 55-year-old owner of a used-car lot and a petrol station, and a 37-year-old Pakistani national have been arrested over charges of illegal weapons possession.
The arrests came following inspections at the two businesses, both located in the district of Rendi, southwestern Athens.
During the inspections police officers discovered 10 hand grenades, a short range machine gun, two handguns and cartridges, among other contraband items.
According to the case file, one of the handguns retrieved in the inspection was one of two guns taken during a house robbery in 2012.
The second stolen gun had been subsequently found in the possession of a 32-year-old suspect who is being sought by police for allegedly participating in an extortion racket.
