Visual artist and writer Houliaras dies
Nikos Houliaras, a noted painter, novelist and poet, has died. He was 75 years old.
Born in Ioannina, in northwestern Greece, Houliaras studied sculpture and scenography at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
As a painter, Houliaras won international recognition for his intensely personal expressionist style.
Houliaras also designed several publications, and was awarded twice at the international book fair of Leipzig, Germany.
His work has been showcased in several solo, as well as group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. A comprehensive retrospective exhibition was hosted at the Benaki Museum in 2011.
His funeral will take place at Athens's First cemetery on Wednesday.
