More police assigned around Acropolis
A beefed-up police presence in the area around the Acropolis over recent days has led to 135 arrests, police said Monday.
Police chiefs revealed that more than 100 uniformed and plainclothes policemen were on duty in the area from May 21 onwards, leading to almost 10,000 people being checked, 1,347 being detained and more than 10,000 knock-off items, including clothing and sunglasses, being confiscated.
Of those arrested, 90 were taken into custody for selling counterfeit goods, 19 for not having residence permits, 10 for theft and one for drug-related offenses.
The operation, which also covers the area around Thisseio and Monastiraki stations, is continuing.
