Tsipras chairs session of new committee on tackling corruption
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday chaired a session of a new committee aimed at cracking down on corruption.
The committee, which was heralded last week along with a partial cabinet reshuffle, comprises the State Minister for Combating Corruption Panagiotis Nikoloudis, the new alternate finance minister for tax issues Tryphonas Alexiadis, the new deputy minister for administrative reform Pavlos Polakis, the deputy justice minister for transparency issues, Dimitris Papangelopoulos and the minister of state for coordinating government operations, Terence Quick.
The meeting focused on ways of speeding up efforts to crack down on corruption with officials deciding on the drafting of legislation for the voluntary declaration of deposits in Greece and abroad.
Government officials also decided to overhaul the tax collection system, according to a statement from Tsipras's office which did not provide details.
