Opinion polls trigger probe
First instance prosecutor Dimitris Gyzis is to launch an investigation into the opinion polls carried out ahead of Sunday’s referendum as well as their use by TV stations ahead of the vote.
Almost all surveys indicated a slim victory for the “yes” or “no” campaigns, whereas the “no” vote garnered 61.3 percent on Sunday against 38.7 percent for “yes.”
Gyzis is to investigate whether any electoral laws were broken in the media’s handling of opinion polls after a complaint from a citizen against a TV station that there had been an attempt to unduly influence the result of Sunday’s vote. SYRIZA and Independent Greeks complained about much of the pre-referendum coverage, accusing some stations of bias.
