Holy Synod asks EU chiefs to compromise with Greece
The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece on Friday called on European Union leaders to help work toward a compromise with Greece in ongoing bailout negotiations.
“With a heightened sense of responsibility vis-a-vis the suffering Greek people but also concern for the future of our country, [the Synod] calls on [the leaders] to display self-control, understanding and solidarity one more time so that a mutually acceptable solution can be found for Greece’s economic problem.”
In its open letter, the Synod said it was “convinced that it is worth making one more effort so that a solution can be found,” adding that an “appropriate, mutually acceptable solution can be found with the spiritual guidance of Jesus Christ our Lord.”
