Greek police detain 12 members of drug smuggling racket
Police detained 12 people, including the son of a well-known Greek winemaker, in coordinated raids on Sunday in various parts of Attica as well as Messinia, in the Peloponnese, and Igoumenitsa, northwestern Greece, officers said on Tuesday.
A range of charges were brought against the suspects, 10 of whom are Greek and two Albanian, including running a criminal organization as well as violating laws relating to drugs and weapons.
The 12 suspects are alleged to have run a racket smuggling drugs into the country while also maintaining several cannabis farms.
Officers confiscated a truck in Igoumenitsa that was found to be full of large amounts of cannabis and cocaine that appears to have been imported from Belgium and the Netherlands.
