Bank of Greece governor due to face MPs on Monday
Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras is to appear before Parliament’s institutions committee on Monday following the panel’s decision to summon him to testify in connection with the Siemens cash-for-contracts scandal.
The panel decided to call Stournaras, at the recommendation of House Speaker Zoe Constantopoulou, as he had signed an out-of-court settlement with the German firm during his stint as Greek finance minister.
The development comes amid increased tensions between prominent members of SYRIZA, including Constantopoulou, and Stournaras after the latter warned in a monetary policy report that failure by Greece to reach a deal with creditors would pave the way for an exit from the euro, and possibly also from the European Union.
