US soldiers patrol near the village of Debellde on the border between Kosovo and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia yesterday. Several ethnic Albanian gunmen were killed on Sunday in a clash with security forces seeking to root out militant separatists in the country’s mountainous north near Kosovo, officials in Skopje said. This appeared to be the biggest crackdown since a 2001 insurgency.
