Panayiotis Psomiadis will not run in snap election

Former Central Macedonia Governor Panayiotis Psomiadis, founder and leader of the Patrida (Homeland) party, announced on Wednesday that he would not be a candidate in the upcoming elections taking place on January 25.

Psomiadis left conservative New Democracy last year.

In 2011, he was handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence for reducing a fine issued to a gas station owner in Thessaloniki, while two years later he received a 15-month suspended jail sentence for breach of duty and faith with regard to the protection of Lake Koroneia, near Thessaloniki.
