Jailed ex-minister’s wife suffers serious head injury
Viki Stamati, the wife of former Defense Minister Akis Tzochatzopoulos, both serving time in prison along for laundering millions of euros in kickbacks from defense contracts, is in hospital after suffering a serious head injury.
Stamati, who has been receiving treatment at the Dromokaitio Psychiatric Hospital since attempting suicide and showing signs of depression, hit her head after fainting in a bathroom in the facility and was found by staff lying a pool of blood.
She is currently undergoing tests at Tzaneio Hospital in Piraeus amid concerns that the fall may have injured her brain.
Stamati, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison, has made numerous appeals for release, asking to be reunited with her child.
