Greek pharmacists: Mail-order drugs scheme is ‘illegal’
The Pharmacists Association on Thursday described as “illegal” a pilot scheme launched by the post office (ELTA), which allows customers to order medicines and have them delivered from pharmacies to their homes for 3 euros.
The pharmacists claim the law allows drugs to only be dispensed in pharmacies.
“It is totally illegal for third parties who have no idea about medicines to transport them,” the association said.
“Drugs are not merchandise that can be moved about by delivery firms.”
ELTA said that the process is safe as the post office employee has to be given signed instructions and a doctor’s prescription before he or she can collect the drugs.
These are put in a sealed envelope, which is given to the pharmacist, who in turn places the drugs in a secure package that is delivered to the customer.
