Seven suspects arrested in illegal adoption investigation
Seven suspected members of a cross-border racket alleged to have mediated in the sale of babies from Bulgaria to childless couples from Greece faced a prosecutor in Trikala, central Greece, on Wednesay.
Two police officers posing as a childless couple seeking to buy a baby arrested four Greeks, including a 48-year-old notary and a 49-year-old lawyer and three Bulgarians, including the suspected mother of the three-week-old child that had been due to be sold for 10,000 euros.
The racket is believed to have organized at least 11 illegal adoptions over the past seven years, according to police.
