Aegean puts on 2 extra flights for Holy Fire from Jerusalem
Aegean Airlines will provide an additional two aircraft to distribute the Holy Fire to different parts of the country once it arrives in Athens from Jerusalem on Easter Saturday, the firm said yesterday.
A total of 10 flights have been chartered solely for the transfer of the Holy Fire; those flights are to Ioannina, Corfu, Cephalonia, Zakynthos, Myconos, Samos, Kos, Lesvos and another two destinations – one to an Ionian island and another to an Aegean destination which the airline did not name.
Some of Aegean’s scheduled flights on Saturday will be subject to delays to accommodate the transfer of the fire.
Christian Orthodox faithful believe that the Holy Fire appears each Easter Saturday in Christ’s tomb in Jerusalem.
