Greek police arrest four suspected members of kidnap gang

Police said on Monday they had arrested four members of a gang that is thought to have kidnapped a 27-year-old in July and obtained 20,500 euros in ransom money before returning the man to his family.

Police said the gang has a total of 10 members and that the four suspects, aged 27, 43, 50 and 57, were arrested in Aghioi Anargyroi, western Athens.

Police searched several homes and retrieved a shotgun and cartridges.

The gang is alleged to have fired at police in Megara, west of Athens, in September when officers attempted to stop a car some of the alleged members were traveling in.

The kidnapping of the 27-year-old from his mother’s meat trading business in Koropi, east of Athens, in the summer was just one of the crimes the gang was wanted for.

The abductee was released almost six weeks after he was kidnapped.
