Venizelos sees key benefits in Cyprus reunification
Evangelos Venizelos on Friday made his first official trip as foreign minister to Cyprus, where he expressed his support for a quick reunification of the island so the country’s economy could also benefit.
“The economic problems, the process for settling the Cyprus issue and exploitation of gas reserves are three parallel and independent paths,” he said.
Venizelos met with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, who is due to visit Athens on July 15.
Venizelos warned that Athens and Nicosia would not be distracted from their foreign policy goals as a result of the economic crises gripping the two countries.
