Eurogroup to convene at 6 p.m. on Sunday
A Eurogroup summit will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m., Dutch Finance Minister and Eurogroup chairman Jeroen Dijsselbloem confirmed on Saturday in a posting on his Twitter account.
The message came amid speculation that a scheduled session of eurozone finance ministers in the Belgian capital would be postponed until Monday to allow Cypriot authorities to approve legislation imposing a levy on bank deposits.
Talks on the size of the levy to be imposed on Cypriot bank deposits in excess of 100,000 euros were to resume on Saturday afternoon after a first round of talks earlier in the day.
After the first meeting, Cypriot Finance Minister Michalis Sarris said the two sides were «close to an agreement.»
It remained unclear whether Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades would also travel to the Belgian capital to present eurozone officials with the new plan to overhaul the country’s finances.
