Parliamentary staff wage reductions to be attached to tax bill
The coalition is set to meet its commitment to slash parliamentary employees’ wages by adding an amendment to the tax bill due to be voted on by lawmakers soon, Kathimerini understands.
The amendment will reduce the wages of parliamentary staff to the same level as Finance Ministry employees, who will also enjoy slightly better pay than other civil servants. There will also be a cap on the amount of overtime pay staff receive each month. This will be limited to 52 hours.
Parliamentary employees threatened to walk out last month during a vote on a new austerity package when the government tried to slash their wages.
