Police raid squat near central Athens, detain eight people
Police have detained eight people after raiding a squat near central Athens on Thursday.
Officers entered the building, known as Villa Amalias, on Acharnon Street in the morning and detained some of the occupants. Six of the detainees are Greek.
Police said they found 1,500 empty bottles in the building, as well as a flammable liquid, knives, ball bearings and gas masks.
The building, which has been condemned, has been occupied by squatters for more than 20 years.
