Supreme Court rules in favor of FinMin in special property tax case
The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Ministry of Finance to continue levying a special property tax –- a key measure to raise sate revenues – via bills issued by the Public Power Corporation (PPC), until a fresh trial takes place on March 22.
Earlier this month a lower court had ruled the practice illegal following a lawsuit filed by consumer group INKA.
The decision had been appealed on Tuesday at the Supreme Court by the Greek state and PPC, both of whom cited reasons of national interest as well as precedent, given that electricity bills have been used to collect the fee for the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, ERT, for instance.
