Social Pact is ready to cooperate with SYRIZA, Katseli says
Louka Katseli, the PASOK rebel who headed the Social Pact party in Sunday’s general elections, gleaning less than 1 percent of the vote, said on Tuesday morning that she would be open to the idea of cooperation with second-placed Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) and Democratic Left.
SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras is due to accept the mandate to form a government from Greek President Karolos Papoulias on Tuesday, after the poll leader New Democracy on Monday failed to form a government.
He is expected to meet with Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis, as well as with other party leaders to discuss whether he can form a government whose main objective would be to re-negotiate the terms of Greece’s bailout agreement with its creditors.
“As Social Pact we want to play an important part in the reconstruction of the progressive field. The initiative is now in the hands of Mr Tsipras, and we are at his disposal,» Katseli, who was ousted from the socialist party for disagreeing with the memorandum, told Radio 9.
