Dozens of stores burgled during unrest

More than 400,000 euros? worth of merchandise was stolen from stores in central Athens during disturbances at an anti-austerity rally last Thursday, according to the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA).

The damage caused to businesses has not been estimated yet but EBEA said that nine bank branches and 53 other stores were attacked during the unrest.

EBEA president Constantinos Michalos wrote to the government to ask for the businesses to be compensated from public coffers.
