Ministry issues clarifications on illegal building law

The Environment Ministry issued fresh clarifications on Thursday about the recent law allowing owners of illegal properties to protect them against demolition by paying a fine.

The ministry said that homeowners who declared their properties during a previous amnesty, declared by the PASOK government in 1983, would not have to go through the process again and would not have to pay a fine.

This is just one of several clarifications issued by the ministry following complaints by civil engineers about the legislation being vague on a number of issues.
