ELSTAT director refutes deficit claim
The president of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), Andreas Georgiou, on Thursday testified before a prosecutor probing claims by a former ELSTAT employee, Zoe Georganta, according to which Greece?s deficit for 2009 was artificially inflated so the country could qualify for a bailout.
Sources indicated that Georgiou dismissed Georganta?s claims as having no bearing on reality.
