Athens technical college to close for a week

The Athens Technical College (TEI) is to suspend its operation from Monday for a week due to a lack of available teaching staff, the institution?s council said in a statement on Wednesday.

The council noted that the government «had not yet approved an adequate number of emergency teaching staff to allow the college to operate at a decent level.”

The Education Ministry responded that ?no state institution has the right to decide to cease its operation.? ?In the middle of a deep financial crisis, teachers should do all they can to keep schools open as doctors should strive to keep hospitals running.?
