IVF doctor’s scam uncovered

An investigation by the financial crimes squad (SDOE), whose results were made public on Monday, has found that the head of the IVF clinic at the University Hospital of Iraklio was for a number of years making a profit by treating patients from a private maternity clinic on Crete at the public hospital.

Investigators found that deposits totalling 3.2 million euros had been made by 970 patients in doctor Antonis Makyriyiannakis?s bank account between 2001 and 2009.

SDOE?s report has been forwarded to a local prosecutor.
