Bad weather adds to commuter woes
Bad weather added to the woes of commuters in Attica on Monday as heavy showers in different parts of the city increased traffic troubles already caused by a large-scale public transport strike.
Meanwhile, all traffic restrictions in central Athens were lifted.
The Athens Fire Department received calls to pump water from flooded areas in Castella, Peristeri, Dafni, Perama and Psychiko.
In Piraeus high winds reaching up to Force 9 on the Beaufort scale caused delays and one cancellation in ferry schedules, while problems were also caused by clogged water drainage pipes. Passengers are advised to contact port authorities and travel agents for more information.
Delays were also observed in the departures and arrivals of planes at the Athens International Airport due to a stoppage conducted by air traffic controllers.
