Would-be migrant seriously hurt in truck fall
A 17-year-old illegal immigrant from Pakistan who fell off a moving truck in the northeastern port of Alexandroupoli was being treated in the intensive care unit of a local hospital for serious fractures to the hip and pelvis on Thursday while authorities launched an investigation into reports that suspected people smugglers had pushed the youth off the truck after being spotted by police.
According to the director of the city?s university hospital, Nikos Raptopoulos, the youth?s life was not in danger after he was submitted to several hours of surgery but there are fears about whether the 17-year-old will recover fully from the fall.
Meanwhile another two illegal immigrants, whose ethnic origin was not revealed, were being treated in the same hospital for symptoms of hypothermia. The two migrants were spotted by border guards after swimming across the Evros River in a bid to sneak into Greece
