Three-year-old child injured by gunshot in Markopoulo during car shootout

A three-year-old child has sustained a gunshot wound to the head in Markopoulo, eastern Attica, in what appears to have been a crossfire incident involving two vehicles.

Emergency medical services transported the child from the Markopoulo Health Center, where the young victim was initially taken by their parents, to the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital in Athens. The transfer was carried out under police escort by officers from the DIAS motorcycle unit.

According to early reports, the injury resulted from an exchange of gunfire between occupants of two cars, reportedly involving members of the Roma community, with a stray bullet hitting the child in the head.

Further investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
