Apartment blast points to domestic terror

Authorities linking incident to members of radical groups attempting to construct explosive device

Apartment blast points to domestic terror

A devastating explosion in an apartment in the Ambelokipi neighborhood of Athens has raised alarms over a possible terrorist connection.

The blast occurred on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the death of a man and serious injuries to a young woman.

Emergency responders rushed to the third-floor apartment on Arkadias Street, where they discovered the deceased man and the injured woman, who was later taken to Evangelismos Hospital.

Authorities have identified the woman and are working to confirm the identity of the deceased man, who some sources indicate may have a history of terrorist activity.

The Anti-Terrorism Unit is now investigating the incident, which is believed to involve members of an urban guerrilla group attempting to construct an explosive device.

Initial speculation about a gas leak was quickly dispelled after investigators found no evidence of gas cylinders at the site. Instead, they determined that the explosion originated in the living room, suggesting that the device was being handled improperly.

A search of the apartment revealed a firearm and a mobile phone, adding to the suspicion surrounding the occupants.

Authorities are also investigating a third individual, a woman who reportedly had keys to the apartment, which may point to a broader network of individuals connected to extremist activities.

These suspects are known to operate on the fringes of radical groups and are suspected of attempting to establish a new terror network.

The incident marks a troubling trend in domestic terrorism within Greece.

In February, a bombing at the Ministry of Labor was claimed by a newly emerging group, Revolutionary Class Self-Defense, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in managing such threats.

Analysts have suggested that the latest incident could indicate a resurgence of familiar tactics and targets previously used by established radical organizations.

As investigations continue, police are urging anyone with information about the individuals involved or their activities to come forward.

The recent uptick in extremist incidents has prompted a call for heightened vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard public safety in Greece.
