Traffic delays as holiday travelers return to Athens
Heavy traffic was reported on the Athens-Lamia highway as travelers returned from the long weekend and public holiday of “Ochi Day” on Monday, October 28.
Traffic delays stretched over 10 kilometers on the Athens-Lamia highway at Thermopyles (Thermopylae), where roadworks reduced traffic to a single lane in each direction. To ease congestion, tolls at Agia Triada near Thermopyles on the Athens-bound side were suspended until midnight, officials said.
The Athens-Corinth highway was also slowed, with cars moving slowly from ancient Corinth to Megara.
Near Thessaloniki in northern Greece, congestion built up at the Malgara toll station, where lanes merge due to bridge repairs.
