Athens municipality to combat mess made by contractors in roadworks

The Municipality of Athens announced on Thursday that it will take measures against mess made by contractors in sidewalk and road works.

According to the municipality, joint teams from the municipal police and the regular police will now carry out inspections to identify potential violations.

“The frustration of citizens with the way third-party contractors carry out works is understandable, not only in the Municipality of Athens but also in other municipalities,” said Athens Mayor Haris Doukas. He added that the municipality’s roadwork department is working on new, stricter regulations for public utility companies that wish to carry out works on sidewalks and roads.

“With the new measures we are adopting, we are doing everything in our power to stop the impunity of companies on the streets and sidewalks of our city,” Doukas emphasized.
