Dendias praises Thrace’s Muslim minority during liberation anniversary

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias praised the local Muslim minority of Thrace on Friday, stating they are “an integral part of the Hellenic identity of Thrace.”

He made his comments during a visit to Xanthi to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the city’s liberation.

He affirmed Greece’s commitment to a united society and expressed confidence that Thrace would continue to thrive and play a crucial role in the region.

During the celebrations, Dendias laid a wreath at the city’s memorial and attended a military parade featuring students and cultural organizations.

Dignitaries, including Xanthi MPs, the local bishop, and military commanders, were present for the event. In his address, Dendias expressed his pride in being part of the anniversary, emphasizing that such commemorations serve not only to honor the past but also to inspire future generations.

He also highlighted the strategic importance of Thrace as a vital link between the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe.
