Turkish organized crime suspect arrested on Chios island

Greek police are interrogating a 40-year-old Turkish national, allegedly a member of the Turkish criminal organization known as “Hawks,” who was arrested Wednesday on the island of Chios.

During a raid on his home, authorities found a handgun, ammunition and fake Italian ID documents and driver’s licenses. The suspect faces charges of illegal weapon possession and document forgery.

Turkish authorities previously conducted two operations, known as “Cell,” which led to the arrest of numerous Hawks members, including an alleged leader with reported ties to Devlet Bahceli, leader of the Turkish far-right Nationalist Movement Party.
