Northern Greece has poor view of public health service

The image of the National Health System (ESY) is deteriorating fast in the eyes of people in northern Greece, with six out of 10 stating that they are dissatisfied with the services offered, and one in two saying they have worsened in the last two to three years, according to survey carried out in July by the company To the Point on behalf of the Medical Association of Thessaloniki.

To make matters worse, six out of 10 young doctors in Thessaloniki are considering leaving Greece due to overwork, poor working conditions and minimal opportunities for research work.

Using a sample of 1,102 residents of the regional unit of Thessaloniki, the survey showed that 56.7% of the participants declared themselves dissatisfied with ESY, compared to just 26 who are satisfied.

In the corresponding survey of 2023, half of the participants (50%) said they were dissatisfied, compared to 39.8% in 2022 and 38.1% in June 2020.
