Priest in Thessaloniki arrested for threatening wife
A 60-year-old priest has been arrested in Thessaloniki for threatening to beat his 48-year-old wife. He is expected to appear before a court later in the day.
The priest was arrested after his wife filed a complaint with the police, alleging that her husband threatened her during a fight at home the previous night. The reason for the fight was the fact that the woman was cooking late last night, causing some noise. She said the suspect threw the minced meat from the balcony and demanded that she stop cooking, raising his fist over her head.
She also told said that they often quarrelled with her spouse in the last two years after she started working, and accused the 60-year-old of abusing her psychologically and insulting her. The woman had filed a complaint in the summer of 2023, when her spouse allegedly threatened to “slaughter and hang her.”
Still, the woman told police she did not want her husband to be prosecuted but instead asked police to issue a restraining order and force him to leave their home.
