Italian arrested on Mykonos for attempted theft, forming gang

Police on the Cycladic island of Mykonos arrested on Tuesday a 28-year-old Italian national for robbing a tourist and forming a criminal gang.

Authorities said the suspect, along with an accomplice who remains at large, attacked a 39-year-old Hungarian man and removed his luxury watch from his wrist. The 50,000-75,000-euro watch was retrieved when a friend of the victim managed to wrestle it away from the suspect.

The two robbers then got on a motorcycle and fled. The main suspect was arrested shortly after.

Police said the 28-year-old Italian, along with his accomplices, arrived on Mykonos and formed a criminal gang with the aim of robbing tourists. The gang members rented motorbikes from a company on the island using the identity of other individuals.
