Garbage truck driver dies at Athens landfill
A 60-year-old garbage truck driver tragically lost his life at the Fyli landfill in western Athens when, under unclear circumstances, he fell under the vehicle.
According to public broadcaster ERT, the man had finished his work at the Fyli landfill when the accident occurred. He was rushed to Thriasio Hospital but succumbed to his severe injuries.
“It is a very difficult day for the municipality of Athens following the loss of a sanitation worker’s life while on duty at Fyli,” stated Athens Mayor Haris Doukas.
Doukas extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and emphasized his support for sanitation workers “who work tirelessly every day to keep our city clean.”
