Traffic violations on the rise

Police data indicate a rise in dangerous traffic violations in Western Greece during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

In the three regional units of Western Greece – Achaia, Ilia and Aetolia-Acarnania – a total of 21,681 dangerous violations were recorded, an increase from 21,171 in the previous year.

The most frequent violations among drivers of cars and motorcycles included speeding, failure to use seat belts and helmets, expired roadworthiness inspections (KTEO) and driving with worn-out tires.

Additionally, a significant number of offenders were fined for making dangerous maneuvers and running red lights. In addition to monitoring for dangerous violations, alcohol checks were also carried out.

According to police data, 28,340 roadside breathalyzer tests were conducted in the first half of 2024, resulting in 846 drivers being identified as under the influence of alcohol.

In comparison, 26,585 tests were administered during the same period in 2023, with 1,006 drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
