Man arrested for attempted robbery and assault in Halkidiki

A man was arrested Monday morning after attempting to rob a seaside lodging in northern Halkidiki and injuring a man with a screwdriver.

The suspect entered the lodging while the renters were asleep. He was caught and, using a screwdriver, injured a foreign man who confronted him.

Police confiscated a knife, a screwdriver, two flashlights, a compass, gloves, clothing and a small amount of cash from the suspect. Investigations revealed that over the past two days, he committed four thefts and two attempted thefts at stores and tourist accommodations in seaside areas of Halkidiki. He stole 500 euros, various goods and personal items, some of which were recovered and returned to their owners.

Authorities continue to investigate his connection to similar crimes.
