Government condemns attack on Supreme Court president’s house

Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis condemned the attack with Molotov cocktails outside the house of the president of the Supreme Court on early Thursday morning, saying the arrest of the perpetrators is “an absolute priority.”

The attack occurred at 12.45 a.m. in the northern Athens suburb of Papagou, injuring a police guard and destroying his car.

The 42-year-old guard who was inside the car when it caught fire, suffered serious burns before managing to get out.

The press representative of Hellenic Police, Konstantina Dimoglidou, stated that there is a constant guard at the specific building and patrols at regular intervals, noting that the perpetrators were apparently watching the movements of the policeman.

“They threw a Molotov cocktail at him to burn him alive. It is clearly a murderous attack,” she said. Investigations are in full swing with any material that can help either from the remains found in the service vehicle, or from video footage.
