Judges condemn petrol bomb attack against top peer

Greek unions representing judges, prosecutors and lawyers condemned on Thursday an overnight petrol bomb attack targeting the residence of the president of the Supreme Court in Athens where a guard was injured.

“Criminal actions against judicial officials undermine the democratic functioning and aim to create a climate of fear and tension within the judiciary as a whole, without achieving their goal,” the Association of Judges and Prosecutors said in a statement, adding that judges will not be deterred from exercising their duties.

In the same spirit, the Coordinating Committee of the Plenary of Greece’s Bar Associations said “violence, wherever it comes from, has no place in Democracy and the rule of law.”

Speaking on a Greek radio station earlier in the day, Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis said that the perpetrators will be found and arrested.
