Five defendants remanded over Mt Parnitha attack
The five defendants arrested last week in connection with the brutal attack on volunteers in the Mount Parnitha area of northern Athens on May 25 were remanded in custody on Tuesday.
The defendants face felony charges of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the case file, the incident took place in the early hours of May 25 in an outdoor area in Fyli where a total of four volunteers were spending the night ahead of a cleaning campaign in the area. The defendants reportedly showed up in two cars and physically assaulted the group, seriously injuring the two volunteers with a sharp object and their fists.
The five were arrested after a police operation last Thursday. They reportedly claimed they had been ripped off by the volunteers during a drugs transaction earlier in the night.
