Thessaloniki conman sentenced, fraud case pending

A 31-year-old man was sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Thessaloniki for breaching personal data, as he tried to change the access code to his 65-year-old neighbor’s online tax details.

The victim has mental health problems and is under the guardianship of his brother. “They do not have any relations, they are just neighbors. [The accused] approached him by taking advantage of his illness and deceived him,” the brother told the court.

A second investigation against the accused is under way for fraud, after the victim’s brother filed a criminal complaint claiming the 31-year-old man stole €300,000 from his brother’s bank account, sold a property he owned and took out three loans in his name.
