Court reduces sentence for frying pan murderer
An appeals court in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, reduced a life sentence handed to a 58-year-old woman found guilty of murdering her former father-in-law, 85, with a frying pan in 2019 to 13 years.
The ruling came as the court recognized that the woman had a history of mental health problems.
According to the case file, the retired teacher had been living locked in a room in her father-in-law’s home while her ex-husband tried to have her committed to a mental institution.
She beat the victim to death in his home and then positioned his body on the apartment block’s stairs to make it look like an accident.
