4.3 magnitude quake shakes Kythnos

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake occurred off the western Cycladic island of Kythnos at around noon, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens.

The tremor was felt in Athens.

The epicenter of the quake, which struck at 11.53 a.m., was located 17 kilometers north-northeast of the island. The focal depth of the quake was estimated at 14.4kilometers.

Greece lies in one of the world’s most seismically active areas, and earthquakes are common. However, fatalities and major damage are rare occurrences.
